Here's how Alabamians who receive Supplemental Security Income or Medicaid for Low Income Families can be exempted from Alabama Power's new rate hikes:
* Visit an Alabama Power office and fill out a form.
* Call Alabama Power's customer service line, 1-800-245-2244, and ask to receive a form by mail. Then send the completed form back to the power company.
Company spokesperson Jan Ellis said the Social Security Administration and the Medicaid Agency then will confirm eligibility.
