Volunteer opportunities are available to residents of the River Region on January 17, 2011, to commemorate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King.
The following agencies have partnered with HandsOn River Region and the Volunteer and Information Center to provide service opportunities for all interested groups and individuals.

Governor’s Inauguration Parade volunteers needed to assist with parade entries from the beginning to the end of the parade and to man side-street barricades with local police officers. A brief volunteer training will be held Thursday evening prior to the event so each volunteer will be well-acquainted with the duties and directions.

The Family Sunshine Center strives to end family violence, to foster hope and healing and to offer immediate response and a safe haven in crisis situations.
Job Description: To perform yard work to include raking leaves, sweeping the parking lot and general cleaning of their lawn.
Number of Volunteers: 10 to 12
Time: 9am until 12pm
The Alabama Wildlife Federation promotes the conservation and wise use of our wildlife and natural resources and seeks to ensure a high quality of life for future generations of Alabamians.
Job Description: To clear brush, clean an outdoor pavilion, assist with fishing pole setup and work in a garden.
Number of Volunteers: 5 to 30
Time: 9am until 1pm
The Adullam House provides a home for children whose parents are incarcerated.
Job Description: To assist with outdoor and indoor cleanup as well as light indoor construction and painting.
Number of Volunteers: 10 to 20
Time: 9am until 2pm
Humane Society of Elmore County prevents cruelty to animals by operating an animal shelter for homeless, abandoned and unwanted animals.
Job Description: To organize and pack summer clothes from their thrift store and
to do a wall painting project in their cat rooms.
