American Humanics at Auburn Montgomery's Christmas Program
2010 VIA Youth Summit: participants made no-sew blankets for COPE and hygiene kits for the homeless.
Book Drive for Aid To Inmate Mothers: VIA member, Maria Glover,collected over 50 books at her school for Aid To Inmate Mothers
Pajama Collection for Family Promise: VIA collected over 40 pajamas, stuffed animals, blankets etc for homeless families
American Humanics at Auburn Montgomery's Easter Program
Great American Clean Up: VIA cleaned up over forty bags of trash at the Normandale Shopping Center.
VIA Sports Day At Kershaw YMCA: 54 children from Family Promise, West End Boys and Girls Club and Common Ground were able to participate in a sports day at Kershaw YMCA. The children played basketball, volleyball and other physical activities
Too Hurt to Cry PSA Contest- The VIA Council in partnership with Family Sunshine Center, Child Protect and One Place Family Justice Center hosted a PSA contest to address domestic violence. Three Booker T. Washington students Kathy Chang, Courtney Nichols and Tenishia Stevenson won the $2,000 education scholarship for their entry entitled "Inside Out". Special thanks to our sponsors: Mr. and Mrs. Carl Whatley, BBVA Compass Bank, Goodwyin, Mills & Cawood, Harmon, Dennis, Bradshaw Inc Dr. And Mrs. Lee Franklin and Montgomery Museum of Fine arts.

Project Ideas
Specific Project Ideas:
1) Aid to Inmate Mothers: A) "Pack A Purse": Purchase a purse, tote, or backpack and fill it with the following items: Toiletry items (toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, lotions, shampoo/conditioner comb/brush etc) New undergarments-bras, panties, socks, panty hose (please include plus sizes), pajamas, gift cards.
B) Story book collection: Collect soft back children's books that will be read and recorded by the incarcerated mother.The mother is recorded reading the story then the recording and the book are mailed to the child. 2) Make "no sew blankets" for the homeless or group homes.
3) Pajama collection: Collect pajamas for Family Promise, Family Sunshine Center and The Salvation Army.

General Project Ideas:
1) Gather clothing at your school or neighborhood and donate them to a local shelter. 2) During Mother's day or Father's Day pass out care packages and cards at a local nursing home. 3)Get a group together and visit/sing at a nursing home 4) Plan and organize a book drive. 5) organize a canned food drive and donate items to the local food bank
